Curriculum Development

We provide assistance at every stage of the curriculum development and publication process. We are here to help from start to finish. Find out how we helped an IMAX film production studio, a biomedical research institute, and an urban middle school with their curriculum development needs.

Start-to-Finish Curriculum Development Services

Is your program in need of a new science curriculum? Beginning with idea inception and topic research, we can develop, pilot, revise, and publish a new curriculum for your program.

Spotlight On: SPLASH! 2010 Summer Science Camp

Asa Mercer Middle School and Ijo Media Arts, with funding from Seattle Public Utilities, were in need of a summer camp curriculum that would engage their middle school students in investigating local water, environmental science, and environmental justice issues. Laughing Crow Curriculum delivered a complete four-week science curriculum, including supply lists, daily schedules, field trip suggestions, lesson plans, and student handouts.

Curriculum Piloting and Revision Services

You have a new science curriculum, but will the experiments actually work? Will kids like it? Will participants gain an understanding of key concepts? Laughing Crow Curriculum can help answer these questions by managing the curriculum piloting, field-testing, and revision process. In this project phase, we test the usability of a draft curriculum with staff, teachers, and students. We then use this feedback to inform revisions to the curriculum, providing you with a field-tested, teacher and kid approved curriculum.

Spotlight On: Legends of Flight IMAX Educational Resources

K2 Communications, Pacific Science Center, and Boeing enlisted our services to develop a series of three educational resources to accompany the IMAX film, Legends of Flight, as it travels to theaters around the U.S. Products included a “Teacher’s Guide 4-8” (8 pages), “Teacher’s Guide 4-6” (40 pages), and an “Informal Educator’s Toolkit” (47 pages). We then took these draft curriculum materials on the road, pilot-testing the curriculum with Pacific Science Center staff at elementary schools around the Puget Sound region. Thanks to our student testers, we are confident that our science activities will be a smashing success with kids across the U.S.

Curriculum Review, Design, and Publication Services

We work with many clients who have been running successful science programs for years, but are now considering sharing the curriculum with a wider audience. They need help polishing up their curriculum materials and preparing them for publication. Our team of curriculum designers, editors, graphic designers, and illustrators can make your curriculum materials shine.

Spotlight On: BioQuest Academy Curriculum

Seattle Biomedical Research Institute has been running an award-winning infectious diseases laboratory program for high school students for years. When it came time to polish their materials and prepare it for national dissemination, BioQuest Academy staff turned to Laughing Crow Curriculum. Through the editing, revision, graphic design, and layout process, we produced two curricula products that students can’t wait to get their hands on. With custom logos, icons, page layouts, and illustrations, the products complement Seattle BioMed’s branding while forging their own design aesthetic.
