STEM Global: Curriculum & Educator Workshop (2018-2021)

A collaboration between Washington Global Health Alliance and Laughing Crow Curriculum LLC

The Washington Global Health Alliance sought our expertise to help set the vision for their STEM Global program, funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. In this effort, we supported staff across six global health organizations in developing teaching resources for secondary STEM teachers, including PATH, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, IHME, Pacific Science Center, NWABR, and the Gates Foundation’s Discovery Center.

Supporting Global Health Organizations in Designing Curricula

We provided design templates, mentoring in curriculum design practices, NGSS-alignment, iterative feedback, adaptations for remote learning, and final copyediting. We also supported these staff in preparing to present to teachers at a series of four STEM Global workshops. When both classroom instruction and the workshops themselves shifted to a virtual format due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we also supported that transition. As a result, the STEM Global website now features nine lessons plans/units for secondary teachers, providing activities exploring the human health impacts and engineering design challenges related to air pollution, cancer, vaccine delivery, COVID testing, and more. Dr. Kristen Bergsman also presented at multiple STEM Global educator workshops held between 2018-2021.

Resources for Teaching about the COVID-19 Pandemic

In response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we supported the STEM Global partner organizations in creating teaching resources specific to the novel coronoavirus, COVID-19, vaccine development, and health inequities.

Laughing Crow Curriculum has curated a list of resources for teaching about COVID-19.
