Environmental Health Lesson Plans

The Environmental Health Perspectives (EHP) environmental health science lessons meet National Science Education Standards in biology, chemistry, environmental science, geology, and physical science, and are targeted at students in grades 9-12. Planet Connect Online Network

Deadline: January 20, 2009

Planet Connect is a new online network for high school students to learn about the environment, green college, and career options, from the National Environmental Education Foundation (NEEF) in partnership with The Weather Channel. Planet Connect is seeking creative ideas to fix local environmental problems and will award 25 students (ages 14-19) $1,000 each, to support their ideas and provide them with local environmental internships.

Materials Science Workshop for Teachers

July 20-24, 2009 University of Washington
This week-long, hands-on, lab-based camp shows you how to use applied science and engineering techniques in the classroom. At a time when many school budgets are tight, this camp will show you new ways to make science and math fun -- for little or no cost!

Fees: None--program includes lunch and supplies; transportation and other costs are your expense. Note that this is a commuting program--a few scholarships are available for those from farther than commuting distances--please call.
Credit: 3 quarter credits available for an additional cost of about $200.
Who should attend: High school general science, chemistry, physics, math and technology teachers; middle school science teachers.

Field of Dog Dreams

What could be happier than a city dog running and bounding through a country corn field? I can't think of anything that competes with that.

My very camouflaged dog is at the center of the photo, bounding over a row of corn stubble and sagebrush. It was a good day.
