Grants for Beetle Study
Know a student who loves beetles?The Coleopterists Society provides monetary grants for students in grades 7 to 12 for studying beetles. The program awards grants up to $150, equipment credits between $200 to $400, and a subscription to the society's journal.Applications are due by November 15, 2006. Teacher Workshops at the Zoo
Register now for Fall & Winter Workshops at Woodland Park Zoo.Workshops are open to educators of all grades, including pre-service teachers. Thanks to grant funding, these professional development opportunities are offered at minimal cost to teachers. The workshops are held at Woodland Park Zoo (unless otherwise noted) and include presentations, tours, discussions and hands-on activities.Educators Open House When: Tuesday, September 26, 2006 (4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.) Where: Seattle Rotary Education Center at Woodland Park ZooCost: Free, includes zoo admission. Join us as we explore the unique biodiversity of this region, including marsupials (wallaroos, wallabies, tree kangaroos), fruit bats, reticulated pythons, parrots and insects. This workshop includes presentations by the author and the photographer of the new children’s book Quest for the Tree Kangaroo, Sy Montgomery and Nic Bishop. Cost: $10 materials fee. How are population, consumption and poverty linked to one another? In this session, presented by Facing the Future and Woodland Park Zoo, we’ll connect the dots between critical global issues and explore ways to address these issues with sustainable solutions through an interdisciplinary, EALR-aligned global sustainability curriculum that engages students in hands-on activities and discussion that promote critical thinking.
